Would You Stay In A BDSM Hotel?

One of the truly grating things in life is delay. Nobody likes it when plans change because of forces beyond our control. And definitely near the top of this list is flight delays or cancellations.

Whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, sitting and an airport and hearing the dreaded announcement that your travel plans are in flux is a bad feeling. If they made airport chairs a little more comfortable, well, it might ease the annoyance a bit, but sitting in an airport is truly a pain in the ass!

Even worse is when your flight gets outright cancelled and you have to wait a long time to get another. If you’re lucky, the airline might take pity on you and put you up in a nearby hotel as a favour for you dealing with the inconvenience. And if you’re super kinky and happen to find yourself stranded in China, maybe they’ll put you up in this sex hotel. Unfortunately, these two travellers who were strangers didn’t really think so.

Tired and... whipped?

How would you feel if you were tired, unhappy with being delayed and given the opportunity to bunk with someone you didn’t know in a hotel? You’d probably accept the situation grudgingly, unless you’re willing to find your own accommodations. Would you be running off in a huff if you were booked into a BDSM-themed hotel room?

While I can see being a bit pissed off if I were in this situation, I really don’t know that I would have cared that much. That said, I spend most waking hours exploring sexuality and can stick it back in a box and ignore the surroundings that bug me. For these women, on the other hand, being thrust into this situation could have numerous difficulties for them.

Reservations about reservations

As much as I think sex should be an open and easy topic for everybody, everywhere, we really are not at that stage in evolution yet. Various organizations and belief systems have demonized sex for so long that we can’t just flip a switch into sex-positive nirvana for all. The airline’s lack of research on the space these customers were being placed in infringed on their rights. That they ended up there on Valentine’s Day adds a little humour to the situation, but possibly a little sadness too.

It is not known whether or not the airlines addressed this situation with these two customers. Sure, it must have been difficult to find rooms for everyone inconvenienced by inclement weather but this kind of insensitivity is surely something that could be avoided. Sex-related issues are particularly difficult to deal with, but with discussion and compassion, I am sure these passengers could be appeased and maybe this situation wouldn’t have gone viral.

I am left with one last question though: if there are hotels like this in China... why can’t I find any where I live?
