The Different Power Sources For Sex Toys

Colour, size, material, shape—all of these are very important things to consider when it comes to choosing your next favourite vibrating sex toy. Every one of these characteristics can be very important, or, in the least, you know which ones aren’t going to be a factor for you at all. We all like different things in our vibrators, but there is one thing that is pretty damn essential: it has to have power!

That’s just basic. A vibrator without vibration isn't going to be as powerful as we want it to be! I mean, really, it will probably still provide you some pleasure, but that awesomeness will be missing. So, when it comes to picking that new vibrating plaything, it is key that you take note of how the toy is powered and if that is the right option for you.

Batteries

Batteries are, by far, the most frequently used power source for vibrating sex toys. From rabbit vibrators to prostate stimulators, batteries have long been the orgasm’s best friend. Batteries offer portability, both at home and for travelling elsewhere. At home, they allow you to use your toys in whaever configuration you want without getting tangled in cords. And by powering toys with batteries, manufacturers can lower the selling price of the toy making it more affordable for consumers while at the same time moving more units.

However, just because batteries are the most popular sex product power source doesn’t mean they are the best option for you. One of the biggest inconveniences happens when you least want it to. Who hasn’t had an incident of batteries suddenly losing their charge just as you’re about to reach that mind-blowing orgasm you’d wanted all day long? And then, you reach into the draw that usually hold batteries only to find that someone else in the house probably got to them first! Disappointing! And this can be even worse when it happens away from home. Sure, batteries are good for travelling, but they aren’t so good when you run out of batteries in a hotel room late at night. Never mind the potential international incident you might cause if you forget to take those batteries out before heading through the airport….and your toy turns on…

Plug-ins

Plug-in sex toys are the old reliables of the vibrating sex toy market. They are always dependable, pretty much until they just won’t work anymore at all. If you’ve got a power source somewhere near where your sexytime is about to happen, you can pull out a plug-in vibrating sex toy and enjoy it to its fullest potential. And you never have to worry about it turning on at an inopportune time—as long as it is not plugged in! Travelling with plug-in sex toys is a dream.

Where plug-in toys become harder to manage is the convenience aspect. How many of you have rearranged your bedroom so that your Magic Wand can easily reach a plug? Or had a collection of extension cords running around the room to accommodate more than one toy at once? Or pulled up a hotel room chair to an odd corner to make an orgasm happen because you didn’t want to unplug your lamp and your alarm clock? Just being able to configure yourself on a bed with a corded toy can be tricky enough...now try to bring a playmate into the action. Using a plug-in toy with a partner can be tricky! Legs and arms and other parts can be a disaster waiting to happen.

Rechargeable

Rechargeable toys just might be the most versatile of all. They are much better for the environment than battery-powered toys, and they also don’t leave you tied to a corded string. Rechargeable sex toys combine the portability of battery toys with they easy powering option of corded. Some can even be used while plugged in if you’re having a marathon session and run out of charge. Rechargeable toys are also the most likely to be useable in the shower, their internal batteries are better protected than battery operated ones.

But the rechargeables still have their own issues. As with many rechargeable products, this type of energy source is still being worked on. They will lose their charge more quickly than battery-powered and not all rechargeable sex toys are able to be used while plugged in. Rechargeable toys are also likely to die much sooner than other types of vibrating toys. Again, their technology is still being developed and improved. And remember, if you’re travelling with one, you’re best to let all the power run out before putting it in your case. They’re meant to give you an explosive orgasm, not cause a bomb scare at the airport!
