Improve Your Diet, Improve Your Sex!

In the best world possible, we are all complete all-stars in the bedroom. We’re always wet or hard, we’re always ready and interested and we’re always able to please our partners in every way that they want us to. That is the ideal world that few of us actually live in.

So, what does the normal person’s sex life look like. Eager for great sex? Yes, often. Able? Well, sometimes, but there are lots of factors that go into that being possible or not. Pleasing our partners? Well, we try (or at least we should be) and sometimes we succeed—but the reality is that sometimes we don’t. All of this leads people to feeling like their sex lives just aren’t fulfilling.

So how can we change that and make our sex as awesome as possible? One way is to look at how we should better treat our bodies.

There are numerous factors that can contribute to sex life challenges. Having kids or caring for older family members can be a huge drain on our physical and psychological energy reserves. A demanding work life, with the possible addition of a commute, can significant your desire and ability to want sex. And when you combine all of that timing it is also very likely you aren’t getting time to help your body with active hobbies or working out.

Despite all of these limitations on our bodies, there is something we everyone can do to help your body cope with all of the demands placed on it and also improve your sex life: eat a sex-boosting diet.

No no no, this is not a guide to the best aphrodesiacs. The belief that some food can cause sexual feelings to rise is a contentious subject. Some folks believe there are active ingredients in oysters, bananas or avocados that boost libido and will make sexytime more likely to happen. If only this were verifiably true! Unfortunately, at this point, there is no scientific evidence to support this claim.

The sexual benefits of a good diet

So let’s stick with what we do know: an improved diet improves overall health and being healthier will improve your sex life. An improved diet will supply your body with better energy to get through all of the tasks you have to accomplish before getting down to sexytime business. A better diet will improve your cardiovascular health—and we know a strong heart has a whole lotta lovin’ to give. And, a more rounded diet will improve your gut health. Many people have issues with wanting sex because they feel bloated or constipated or have other gastrointestinal issues.

Now, the big question is: what do you need to put in your shopping cart? In our fast paced world, it is easy to rely on quick and easy when it comes to meal time. Or better yet? Take out! But if you really want to improve your sexual health with your diet, you do have to carve out a little time to invest in cooking some good healthy meals.

One thing to look for in your foods is how they contribute to the creation of nitric oxide in your blood system. Nitric oxide dilates blood vessels to allow greater blood flow to the genitals. The better the flow, the better the response! So, it is best to look for foods that contain, or can improve the creation of nitric oxide.

Foods to help your sex life

  • One of the key food benefits we need more of is good, lean protein. Sure, a steak or a hamburger will give you a protein boost, but they aren’t as good for your cardiovascular health. Different types of proteins, such as lamb, salmon, eggs, dairy, nuts and beans are great lean proteins that contain the amino acid arginine, which is a building block of nitric oxide.
  • Remember when you were told to eat your greens growing up? Well, we should have listened! Green vegetables are crucial to our overall health, but can also contribute greatly to improving sexual health. Be sure to get lots of greens, such as Brussel sprouts, kale, broccoli and spinach into your diet and you’ll see many great results. These are all also rich in nitrogen and release nitric oxide when metabolized by the body.
  • Don’t worry, it isn’t all super healthy, all the time. Adding some dark chocolate to your diet can also help. Dark chocolate has cocoa flavanols in it. These have antioxidant properties and contribute to healthy blood flow. Adding some dark chocolate to your diet can lower blood pressure and help formation of nitric oxide.
