Beach Sex: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Beach Sex: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Is it safe to say we’ve all seen that classic image from the film From Here to Eternity? Maybe you haven’t seen the actual movie, but that scene of Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr passionately kissing on the beach while waves crash over them is one of the most indelible in film history. It has also, no doubt, inspired many people to want to do the same thing.

Well, it has surely inspired people to want to do more. The film was made in the 1950s when you couldn’t show anything more than a lengthy lip lock.

But let’s just lay it out: beach sex can really suck.

Sure it is romantic, spontaneous and sexy as all hell. You combine the rushing water, the danger of being caught or seen and an exciting new location and the idea seems fantastic! You’re also likely all worked up from seeing your partner (and others) in skimpy bathing suits all day. It seems like the perfect recipe for something awesome.

But there are drawbacks.

First and foremost is sand. If you’ve ever been to a beach, you know it gets everywhere. And it sticks. Let me repeat: it gets everywhere and it sticks! If you try and act out this iconic movie scene but take it further to include some beach boning, you and your partner are going to be covered in sand - with the significant likelihood that it gets inside one or both of you are well.

We’re talking chafing, we’re talking irritation and we’re talking discomfort. All of this can lead to redness, inflammation and a rash. Hopefully these symptoms will go away quickly, but can you imagine walking around for the coming days? And if you’re using a condom, then we’re also talking the great potential of rippage. With an abrasive little substance like sand mingling in tight, wet spots, it is very likely the condom will become compromised.

And you won’t be alone. No, I don’t just mean potential gawkers and spectators - although that is a potential risk as well. Unless you’re super rich with your own, private stretch of waterfront property, remember that beach sex is a public deed and you could get arrested for public indecency like this overly ambitious couple in Florida.

But that’s not what I mean by being alone. Beaches are their own little ecosystem with all kinds of little critters and more. Sand fleas and flies could take little nibbles out of your sensitive bits while the waters of most areas of the world are filled with various different types of bacteria that could get right up in your business. While these might not bother you right away, little bites could become very sensitive and possibly infected, and the common beach bacteria enterococco can lead to UTI’s, endocarditis, diverictulitis and meningitis.

Beach sex comes with a lot of risks!

Sometimes we think sex in bed is boring and too routine. Well... it is starting to sound a lot more appealing than beach sex, isn’t it? Probably best to keep this one in fantasy land.
