Q&A: Can I Squirt?

Q&A: Can I Squirt?

Q: I have tried and tried and tried and I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I want to squirt! My boyfriend wants me to squirt! It looks so hot and he really wants to get covered in my juice, but I can’t make it happen. What are we doing wrong?

A: There is no denying that squirting, or ejaculating, has certainly become one of the most sought-after sexual experiences. Unfortunately, unlike other types of sexual experimentation, it is unlikely that anyone can just “do it.” Rather, you’re probably going to have to put some time and energy—you and your boyfriend—into seeing if this is an activity that you can make happen. And be prepared, you might not be able to squirt.

Experts on ejaculation do say that anyone with a vagina is capable of squirting, they just need to learn the proper techniques. This includes understanding the sensations your body will experience and react to.

At the core, squirting comes from stimulation of the urethral ducts or urethral sponge. To access this area, you or your partner need to stimulate your G-spot. If you two don’t already know, this famed hotspot is located a few inches into the vagina, past the pelvic bone and curved up, on the anterior surface of the vagina. Definitely spend some time playing there!

As you rub the G-spot back and forth, you’ll feel ridges on the surface. As arousal builds, these ridges get harder. Behind the ridges are the urethral ducts. Keep that action up, including some other types of stimulation including clitoral stimulation (if you so choose) and you just might expel some uric acid through your urethra. In other words, you might squirt.

That last bit is important to keep in mind. No, the liquid is not coming out of the vagina. And no, it is not pee. It may contain a bit of pee, but it is mostly uric acid.

With the holiday season approaching, it is good to note that some toys are fantastic in reaching and stimulating the G-spot (and will prevent very cramped fingers). The best toys are a bit longer and have a curve to reach that special spot. Check out and try the Duo Obsessions Lavish Pink Vibrator, the Love Handle Purple G-Spot Massager and the Adam & Eve L'arque Pink G-Spot Vibrator.

When it comes to squirting, some folks have a hard time with anxiety that won’t let them get to the wet part. The sensation of squirting can feel a lot like having to pee and can be quite intense. Some find it difficult to get past this given our overall society shame with wetting ourselves and our beds.

At the same time, squirting has become pervasive in porn, where, to let you know, most squirting scenes are actually peeing scenes masquerading as squirting. It is a hell of a lot easier to piss on command than it is to squirt. Because it is all over porn, male partners are pressuring people to ‘perform’ squirting instead of it being a natural result of the right stimulation. If your boyfriend is pushing you too hard, you might not be able to push past and push that liquid out.

One last thing: squirting does not necessarily happen during orgasm. It can, but it can also happen at other moments. Don’t try and force it to happen as you cum.

As they say, just go with the flow!
