More Sex On Weed?

More Sex On Weed?

Now we know why the hippies were always smiling and looking so happy!

This is probably not news to many, but it turns out that marijuana just might be linked to having more sex. Funny, a substances that makes you relaxed, helps alleviate pain and anxiety and generally puts you in a good mood just might make you more interested in getting into some sexy shenanigans.

Whether for recreational or medicinal use, marijuana has been known for centuries as a usual substance to treat all of the above plus much more. Unfortunately, it got caught up in the great drug panic of the early 20th century and its numerous beneficial uses were swept under the rug in order to save the children from the great green monster.

Better Understanding

Finally, cooler heads are prevailing and many jurisdictions around the world are starting to revisit their fear of the little weed and are listening to the different stories of how it can help us in so many different ways. Including our sex lives.

At this point, studies linking pot smoking and sexual frequency and satisfaction are still limited in both scope and results. It will be a tremendous aid when more money is allocated to make the studies more broad and more frequent. But let’s take a look at what this recent study tells us about how often we have sex.

In some respects, a 20% increase sexual frequency is a big deal. Really, it shouldn’t be sneezed at, but is it still a big deal if it really only means adding one more sexual experience a month? Researchers will say yes, while us at home might not really bat an eye at the thought. But we should, and here’s why.

Other Considerations

The article distinctly points out there there is no true causal link between marijuana consumption and increased sexual relations. And we’re seeing a pattern increase of only one more sexytime session. Sure, those are limits. But, let’s remember that there are two distinct parameters that influence this study: time and stigma.

We have to consider the time frame of the study. It asks respondents to consider the preceding 4 weeks of sex. That is not a lot of time. It mentions specifically heterosexual couples and that period will likely involve at least one menstrual cycle. Not saying sex needs to shut down then, but some women do prefer it. Increasing the study duration to six months or a year might provide a better look and comparison of tokers vs nopers.

The other consideration is stigma. While marijuana is becoming more legalized and accepted, there are still many misconceptions and negative feelings that need to go up in smoke. It is unclear how researchers found the respondents for the study, but I hope this same research is done in another 5 years, once we have some time to get used to the idea that marijuana is an everyday part of some people’s lives. Until society truly gets passed the discomfort of pot formerly being an illegal substances, marijuana use might be too limited or not free reported enough to get a good sample. This will take time.

In the meantime, if you can partake safely and without fear of legal retribution, marijuana just might be the thing to help you have more sex. And even if it doesn’t, you’ll still feel really good.
