Saliva Is NOT Lube!

Saliva Is NOT Lube!

Okay fellas, we need to have a little talk. This doesn’t just apply to guys, it applies to everybody, but a recent study has particularly pointed to dudes as being the ones most affected by a certain lack of attention to detail. And it has to change. The details must be paid attention to.

No more using spit as lube!

It seems this is still happening, that using your own saliva as a lubricant for sexytime fun is still a thing. It absolutely shouldn’t be, but it is still happening. And this practice is resulting in the spread of rectal gonorrhoea.

Listen up dudes!

The reason I directed this to the fellas is because the study in question was conducted with men who have sex with men. Of course though, we know that transmitting rectal gonorrhoea is not the only problem that can result from trying to use spit as lube. Other STIs and infections can spread through small micro-abrasions caused by insufficient lubrication. That’s right—saliva is insufficient. It does not have enough slippery qualities or staying power to ensure your hot action keeps you moving like a sexy, oiled machine.

It does not have to be this way. Nobody should be using saliva as a lube anymore. There are so many fantastic lubes available everywhere these days. Sure, back in the day, there wasn’t the ready supply of lube we can now get our hands on. Vegetable oil and Crisco were the name of the game. Hell, some people still prefer those to this day (not a good idea, but that’s a talk for another time).

So many better products

But nowadays, you can get lube from anywhere. Sex shops, of course. Pharmacies, yup. Another great way is ordering it online at great prices from your favourite sexy website (Cough, cough.. Cherry Banana)! Kidding aside, there are so options available to anyone who needs it: silicone lube, water-based lube, anal lube, masturbation lube, flavoured lube and much, much more. Lube has been recognized as an essential sexual aid. Now, people just need to internalize this reality.

There seems to be another issue with lube that some people really have trouble dealing with. It might be more of a heterosexual issue, but some folks think using lube somehow denotes some kind of inability to be excited. I don’t know if that’s really the case with men who have sex with men, but some people who have sex with women might deem their inability to produce natural lubrication as some kind of fault. It absolutely is not and a lack of lubrication can be the result of any number of things.

At the same time, nobody produces any kind of anal lubrication, so a supplemental lube is absolutely essential because the anus and anal cavity are particularly sensitive and prone to small tears. And hey, what can cause those tears? Using spit as lube!

Really folks, let’s just stop.
