Putting A Finger On Prostate Pleasure

The results of Nexus’ recent survey on prostate health and sexual pleasure are in, and there are some surprising findings. It is important to conduct this kind of research to learn what both men and women know and understand about the prostate, a long-misunderstood part of men’s anatomy.

Having a happy, healthy prostate is key to men’s health—sexual and otherwise. The attention given public awareness campaigns such as Movember has resulted in significantly better understanding of the prostate’s role in men’s health and the potential for issues, such as prostate cancer. Given the prevalence of prostate cancer, it is surprising to learn in this survey that 5% more women than men know what the prostate is, 16% of men don’t know where it is and 4% have never even heard of it. In some respects these numbers might seem low, but prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, particularly over 40. There is still a strong need to educate on the importance of prostate health.

Prostate pleasure

On the other hand, the prostate can be a source of significant sexual pleasure, and that message does seem to be spreading. Because the prostate is located in the anal cavity, some men have been reticent to explore and enjoy the unique pleasure it offers. Fear of pain and a stigma about bum fun only being for gay men have kept guys from experiencing something truly amazing.

However, the Nexus results seem to indicate that men are getting over these fears and embracing the joy of prostate play. 78% of men and 55% of women have tried prostate massage, with the goal of sexual pleasure. This is very encouraging because even though folks are doing something for fun, prostate massage is an excellent way to facilitate prostate health. Massaging or “milking” a prostate encourages the release of seminal fluids that may be lingering too long in the prostate and could be harbouring potentially harmful bacteria. Fortunately, only 2% of men surveyed said prostate massage is something they would definitely not do.

Did I mention prostate massage feels good? Well, that is an understatement. Prostate massage can lead to life-changing orgasms the like of which men have never enjoyed before. Nexus reports that 36% of men in their survey have experienced a prostate orgasm, and you can check out some of the responses to describe that sensation. My favourite is “Like the most incredible release in the world.”

Opening up to prostate play

Perhaps the most encouraging statistic from the Nexus survey is that men are accepting and becoming quite comfortable with the idea of prostate massage and pleasure. 92% of respondents said they’d be comfortable talking about it—and that is key to increasing awareness of not just sexual opportunities but also the health education. While there is still a bit of reluctance with whom men will discuss prostate massage, it is encouraging that this is a topic gaining traction.

Prostate health is not going to be magically assured through prostate massage and pleasure, but when the possibility of increased health can be associated with sexual pleasure, it seems a no-brainer to try, doesn’t it?
